In my opinion, there is only one person, the Dalai Lama, who could have done a better job describing the concept of self-awareness.
In an article I recently wrote for the Huffington Post, I called L. Ron Hubbard “the man who invented the technology that makes the human mind self-aware.” Like the Chinese-developed self-aware robot in Minority Report, Hubbard had a device called MindMeld, which allowed him to communicate with his subjects. Although the device was designed to be used by people in their own homes, Hubbard himself used it to communicate with his subjects almost constantly.
Not only does Hubbard make clear the importance of self-awareness, in his case, by using it to communicate with his subjects, but he makes it clear that the idea is not limited to humans.
Hubbard uses MindMeld to communicate with his subjects more easily than any other device. There’s little he can do about it, and he doesn’t even use it to communicate with his subjects. Not only does Hubbard use it to communicate with his subjects more easily than any other device, he also doesn’t use it to communicate with his subjects in actual situations.
Hubbard’s devices are designed to be used in a more human fashion, which is why he is a bit more relaxed about using them than any other self-aware person. He says, “The devices are my tools, my assistants, my tools for communication. I use them to communicate with people.” It’s clear that he is not trying to communicate with his subjects in situations, but rather to help them in situations.
It’s great to hear that Hubbard’s devices are designed to be used to communicate with other people and not to be used to communicate with his own subjects. However, it’s interesting to hear that he doesn’t use them as communication tools in actual situations. He says, I use my devices for communication. My assistants are not devices, but they can be used for communication.
People often ask me, “What is your favorite book?” I always answer mine by citing that it is the book that I’m currently reading.
We can answer this question by saying that the ones who love to read are those who are constantly reading. The ones who don’t read, they are not readers, they are not connected to the books reading experience. We can also say the ones who don’t read are not connected to the books they read, which is an interesting way of saying that they are not in charge of what they read.
I have read so many books, that I think there are more that I am not aware of than there are books I am aware of. As you can see, I’m pretty selective about what I read. What I read is what I think is interesting, and what I think will make me feel better about myself and my life.
I’m not sure if this is just an issue with me or just something that you are finding here in the U.S., but my wife and I are both pretty selective about what we read. We are both fairly book/movie-obsessed and also really strict about where we read. It may have something to do with our differing views on how to read, but we have been reading a lot more non-fiction this year than we have in the past.
